16h/ LIBYA UNDER PENTAGON-NATO RULE: Corruption, internecine conflict and the “fruits” of imperialist warfare
The Fruits of Imperialist War in Africa The situation in Libya represents the outcome of imperialist wars that have been waged by the U.S. and other Western countries over the last decade. Initiated on the basis of humanitarian concerns, these interventions always result in the worsening of conditions for the masses within the respective countries.

In the U.S. itself, the economic crisis is causing the destruction of the cities and the rise in racist violence. The runaway military spending has not created any job growth for the tens of millions of unemployed workers. In Canada, which ostensibly led the NATO operations in Libya, a scandal is emerging over the cover-up of the cost of the war.

Conservative government Defense Minister Peter MacKay took to the airwaves on May 13 in a damage control effort amid allegations of misrepresentation of funding in the war. Press reports say that the actual cost of the Libya bombing campaign for Canada was 700 percent higher than what has been stated publically. MacKay said “The interventions are expensive. In my view, this was money well spent.”

The robbery took place on a convoy transporting LD 2 million from the Central Bank of Libya in Benghazi to the Bank of North Africa in Tobruk on 6 May.

Three of the convoy’s guards were killed, whilst the fourth survived the attack. He, along with the bodies of the other three men, were left by the roadside whilst the attackers fled with the cash.
The money has subsequently been recovered and the robbers arrested

21h/ May 17 (Reuters) - Libya has approved an Islamic banking law that will introduce sharia-compliant banking in the North African country, a member of the ruling National Transitional Council (NTC) said on Thursday.
"The NTC has adopted the central bank's proposal regarding Islamic banking," Salwa Al-Dgheily, a member of the NTC judicial committee, told Reuters. She said it was up to the central bank to now announce the law.
Are the people who live in Western NATO countries really that brainwashed or  support the wars that will profit their industry which directly raises their living standards.
Whether the profit counts as the only success in life? Do any of the residents of the countries which killed Libyans ever pause to think "What if something like that happened to me as well"

Now WE KNOW how many girls Saif had, and where Mutassim spent his holidays. We know that Aisha had a green bag (because it is of vital importance for the development of democracy).

The former leader of the Combatant Group of Islamic Libyans (LIFG), an anti-Gaddafi formation that arose in the mid 1990s with several insurrections on the Eastern seaboard, and (according to some observers) responsible for three attempts on the Gaddafi's life, is to form his own party.

14h/  UN - Thousands Remain In Secret Libya Militia Prisons [what’s surprise!]
Ian Martin, head of the UN mission to Libya, said good progress was being made toward the country's first democratic election, but militia prisons were one of a number of "serious obstacles" to establishing the rule of law.
"Cases of mistreatment and torture of detainees continue," Martin told the UN Security Council. The UN has raised "deep concern" over the deaths in April of three people at a prison in Misrata which comes under government authority.
There was "credible information" that the deaths were caused by tortureand that at least seven other people had been tortured at the same prison, said the head of the UN Support Mission in Libya, or UNSMIL.
There have also been allegations of torture at prisons in Tripoli, Zawiya and Zintan.

18h/ Thousands remain in secret Libya militia prisons
Martin said there was "credible information" that the deaths were caused by torture and that at least seven other people had been tortured at the same prison.
The justice ministry now has 31 detention facilities with about 3,000 inmates, he said. But control of many of these is shared with the revolutionary militias which have retained significant powers.

"Addressing these practices should be a top government priority in pursuit of a new culture of human rights and the rule of law," said Martin. Gathafi's government was notorious for rights abuses.
17h/ Libya moving to democracy through torture?
Libya is currently preparing for its first free national congress election in 45 years. The UN representative called on the country’s government to address the practice of illegal prisons immediately if it really is interested in establishing rule of law and protecting human rights.
In January, Medecins Sans Frontieres had to suspend its work in Libya’s third-largest city Misrata after having to treat tortured prisoners.
The group reported its doctors had to help detainees with burns from electric shocks and cigarettes, heavy bruises and renal failure, evidence of continuing torture of prisoners.
According to the UN, the number of prisoners has diminished in Libya. As of November 2011, there were an estimated 7,000 detainees in prisons around the country without any hope for a fair trial.
