Mr. McDonnell,
I must say I am shocked with the way you wrote this article, although I haven't read your work before, so I can't really judge if you are always so biased when reporting from Libya.
I would just like to point out the obvious- when writing about crime scene ( and this is a crime scene on a larger scale), what should you cover?
How many victims?
Who were the victims?
When did it happen?
How did it happen?
Who did it?
Why?
Let's say one US Senator was accused of committing a crime, and was then targeted with bombs in his family house, without evidence or proper trial. Let's say he doesn't die, but his entire family is wiped out. What would be the appropriate title of the article covering a crime scene? Would it be: "The Corrupt Senator survives the attempted murder" or " 10 people killed in bombing attack on a US Senator in his house" or something like that?
Would you then proceed to describe the "luxurious haven" and the China vases or try to answer the basic question - since when it is OK to attack somebody in his house, without trial, without evidence, just based on allegations. Would you, then take statements describing the character of the victims, because, hey-if a victim was not a good guy, it deserved to die anyway ( I just don't know how you could be able to justify the killing of children, but I guess you can always downplay it a little...) or would you try to do the basic search on the one victim you try to portrait and make sure you are as objective as possible.

As you will see, the majority of the resources portray him just as what the Libyan government said he was- A Humanitarian, but you either didn't make the effort to search them or decided to ignore them completely.
And one last thing- what about this: "The government was eager to display evidence of a "barbaric" assault, in the words of Musa Ibrahim, the chief government spokesman." What kind of a man witnesses a bombed site, with multiple victims including children, and then makes such a remark???? Eager?! Really?
How would you react to find your house invaded, destroyed, your children killed, and your only way to seek some justice is to ask the media to show it?
Because that's exactly what's going on in Libya- a foreign invasion under pretext of Humanitarian aid and protection. Humanitarian bombing...
I guess those 900 ( including over 100 children) people killed in NATO air strikes were not humans after all, maybe they didn't pass the test NATO makes when deciding on targets.
Is there a code word or something?
Are the rebels who make the minority of Libyan people the only humans who count?
And You and Your fellow reporters don't have the guts to stand up for any other humans in Libya, except those politically correct according to your employer.
But I guess it's like that in America-
You have to chose: Your conscience or your carrier...

"TECHNICAL ERROR"

OPEN LETTER TO TWITTER: STOP NATO FROM USING YOUR DOMAIN FOR THEIR KILLINGS IN LIBYA!

(original longerTweet can be read at Twitlonger)
June 19, 2011
During this past week a number of articles have reported on the use of Twitter to provide Target Acquisition information to NATO:

"How social media users are helping NATO fight Gadhafi in Libya" *1)

"Libya air strikes: Nato uses Twitter to help gather targets" *2)
"NATO draws on Twitter for Libya strikes" *3)

This means NATO is using YOUR DOMAIN to target civilian sites to destoy and cause mass casualties and deaths of Libyan civilians!!!

A random check made clear NATO gets their information, i.e. latitude and longitude information of Libyan government forces and other strategic/logistic information, from tweets like these:

http://storify.com/antireb/list-of-tweets-sent-to-and-used-by-nato-to-bomb-ta

which information is tweeted to:
, , , , , , , and/or .

The war on Libya is widely regarded as ILLEGAL, both under international law and under US statutes including the War Powers Resolution. (see
http://www.accuracy.org/release/libya-war-illegal/)

Therefore, anyone collaborating in acts of violence connected to this war is arguably a criminal conspirator; his/her actions are analogous to those of a gang member using online communication to inform a contract killer of the location of his victim.

Under US federal law, transmitting information containing threats of injury or death is a criminal offense:

"Whoever transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any communication containing ... any threat to injure the person of another, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both."

18 U.S.C. § 875 (c)

Courts have held that this statute applies, not only to the person sending the illegal communication, but also to any Internet Service Provider that transmits the communication. See
https://www2.bc.edu/~yen/ISPLiab.pdf

Simply by transmitting bombing coordinates posted by its users, therefore, Twitter may be in violation of federal criminal law.

Moreover, Twitter’s Terms of Service - the so-called "Twitter Rules" *4) - clearly state:

"You may not publish or post direct, specific threats of violence against others"

as well as
"You may not use our service for any unlawful purposes or for promotion of illegal activities."

Therefore Twitter appears to be in VIOLATION, not only of the law, but also of its own Terms of Service.

We therefore urgently request you to take action against twitter accounts that directly contribute to the destruction of Libya and the casualties and deaths of thousands of Libyan people.

Sincerely,

Qaddafi's Libya is not Obama's Libya

By Jose Gil

"Below the parliamentary assemblies, the Age of the Masses live, direct democracy, the Third Theory"
Qaddafi's Libya is building a sovereign, free and independent country. It is the Bedouin who after winning the challenges and hardships of deserts, invades the cities with his ideas of freedom, his tent challenges the most powerful weapons in the world, to say loudly and in a clear voice: "Parliamentary democracy is the falsification of true democracy, below the parliamentary assemblies, the Age of the Masses lives, straight direct democracy, the Third Theory."Obama dramatically fails AP fact check

Qaddafi's Libya is not Obama's Libya. 44397.jpegThe greatest deceiver of mankind, a major liar, who fooled the American people to elect him U.S. president, who was so stupidly and recklessly awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize, Barack Obama, was the first black president to order the bombing of Africa.

In speeches at the White House to tame and corrupt Western media, Obama speaks of a Libyan who he says he knows, because he only has information falsified by Zionists who dominate and control the media and the U.S. banks.

Praying in the book of criminal leeches and the international financial system, Obama is just a stupid puppet, controlled by unknown forces, ordering  criminal actions that will ultimately put the planet in critical condition.

The first time I traveled to Libya was in the distant year of 1985. At the time, I was a student activist and idealistic. I saw a country proud of its freedom. I remember watching the inauguration of housing developments planned by the leader Moammar Gadhafi for poor people who roamed the deserts of Libya, who lived in tents or tarpaulins on the outskirts of Tripoli.

In the years that followed, I returned to Libya several times and saw a country thriving, growing and progressing each year, despite the boycott, the international campaigns against the country orchestrated by U.S. imperialism and by Israeli Zionism.

After all this time, decades and decades of resistance, the Libyan people had built a strong and sovereign nation, internationally respected, in solidarity with peoples fighting for liberation. This is the Libya of the Gadhafi whom I have met. I walked the streets of Tripoli, Benghazi and Sirte, and I talked to people, I drank the true facts at the source, not the daily lies of western media.

I saw an opportunity in this booming country, constructing modern beautiful buildings, able to rival the most modern buildings of the UAE.

A sovereign, socialist, progressive and rich nation, led by a man who never surrendered to imperialism or Zionism, but rather always fought, was unacceptable for governments who align themselves with imperialism, Zionism and criminals to steal and expropriate the wealth of nations: France and England.

Obama's Libya is the illusion and the lies of a ruler who does not see an inch ahead. Barack Obama is not a Malcolm X or a Martin Luther King. He never had any deep knowledge of the reality of the people. He has always been a puppet of American political parties, funded by the oil and war industries - the biggest ones interested in promoting world wars.
Qaddafi's Libya is the people happy, the owners of their freedom, owners of their own home, their land, a partner in the company where they work. It is something that is beyond the comprehension of Obama, who has no culture, intelligence or ability to understand the philosophical advances practiced and taught by Gaddafi. But Obama is president of the most powerful country in the world, despite his political ignorance.
The difference between Obama and Gaddafi is that Gaddafi's ideas never die: they simmer around the world in most of the countries and they will build the histories of people who advance in their struggles for liberation. Obama will be a forgotten name in the dustbin of history because he was put at the service of selfishness, of capitalism, to murder defenseless civilians in various countries, where criminal industries steal oil and he lives in order to encourage and favor capitalists and Zionists.
