[August 2011] Rebels ransack the Historic Church of St. George in Tripoli

The historic church of St. George located in Libya, in Tripoli, dating back to 1647, has been ransacked. The church is the oldest Orthodox church in North Africa.
The president of the Greek community, Dimitris Anastassiou transferred the news to the Metropolitan of Tripoli Mr. Theophylaktos, who has been in Greece since late June.
I am feeling heartbroken for what is happening in Libya, this beautiful country which was destroyed and whose people are noted for their hospitality,” stated the Metropolitan of Tripoli, who settled in Libya in 1991.
”I was sad to hear the news from Mr. Anastassiou. The thieves stole the shrine of our patron saint which I had brought from Mount Athos. Old Gospels, chalices, cherubim, censers, one of which we had been given by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
Those who stole the holy objects contacted the president of the community and asked for money in order to return them. Mr. Anastassiou reported the incident to the police, but as things are at the moment, none will deal with this matter,” he said. [1]

[10. October 2011] Gunmen Attack Mosque in Libyan Capital

None of the National Transitional Council leaders have until now failed to comment on reports by witnesses that a group of more than 200 heavily armed gunmen, Sunday night, attacked a mosque in the northeastern Al-Masri district of the Libyan capital, Tripoli, ransacked the tombs of two imams, and made off with their relics.

According to witnesses the gunmen arrived at around 10.00 p.m. on pickup trucks fitted with heavy machine guns, forced open the mosque's door, and in three hours dug up the tombs of imams Abdel Rahman el-Masri and Salem Abu Seifnd, stole their relics, burnt copies of the Koran, ran havoc inside the mosque and caused destroyed much of the inside.

A teacher at the adjoining Koranic school, told AFP on condition of anonymity, that the gunmen wore beards and were in military uniform. He said they must have been Islamic extremists wanting to make trouble. “They want power, they want to control Libya," he said.

According to witnesses the men were very well organised. Some of the men sealed off the perimeter of the mosque and were communicating with walkie-talkies, while others did what they must have planned to do inside the mosque.
Libya: Islamic extremists wanting to make trouble
This is the third such incident in just over a week. A few days ago a Muslim cemetery in the western district of Gargaresh and another close to the Tripoli airport were also ransacked, apparently with pneumatic drills and other heavy tools.[2]

[February 2011] (V) RIP HEART and play with it
Rebels aka 'PEACEFUL PROTESTERS' from Benghazi burnt a man,cut off his head, arms and legs,t, and rip off his heart, bite it played with it, while cheering, in the middle of the day on a square in Benghazi ... this was before Gadaffi even started fighting with them... What would your president do if Al Qaeda terrorists did this on a public square in your town? He would call them 'democracy seekers' and give them a seat in the Parlament?

[29. February 2012]

A shocking video has appeared on the Internet showing Libyan rebels torturing a group of black Africans. People with their hands bound are shown being locked in a zoo-like cage and allegedly forced to eat the old Libyan flag.

“Eat the flag, you dog. Patience you dog, patience. God is Great,” screams a voice off-camera in the video uploaded to YouTube last week, which also made its way onto LiveLeak.com.

The torturers are also shown making the group of captive black Africans stand up with pieces of green cloth still in their mouths and apparently forcing them start jumping.

A number of people are shown standing outside the cage watching the atrocity.[2]
