16h/ LIBYA UNDER PENTAGON-NATO RULE: Corruption, internecine conflict and the “fruits” of imperialist warfare
The Fruits of Imperialist War in Africa The situation in Libya represents the outcome of imperialist wars that have been waged by the U.S. and other Western countries over the last decade. Initiated on the basis of humanitarian concerns, these interventions always result in the worsening of conditions for the masses within the respective countries.

In the U.S. itself, the economic crisis is causing the destruction of the cities and the rise in racist violence. The runaway military spending has not created any job growth for the tens of millions of unemployed workers. In Canada, which ostensibly led the NATO operations in Libya, a scandal is emerging over the cover-up of the cost of the war.

Conservative government Defense Minister Peter MacKay took to the airwaves on May 13 in a damage control effort amid allegations of misrepresentation of funding in the war. Press reports say that the actual cost of the Libya bombing campaign for Canada was 700 percent higher than what has been stated publically. MacKay said “The interventions are expensive. In my view, this was money well spent.”

"Cases of mistreatment and torture of detainees continue," Martin told the UN Security Council. The UN has raised "deep concern" over the deaths in April of three people at a prison in Misrata which comes under government authority.
There was "credible information" that the deaths were caused by tortureand that at least seven other people had been tortured at the same prison, said the head of the UN Support Mission in Libya, or UNSMIL.

17h/ Libya moving to democracy through torture?
Libya is currently preparing for its first free national congress election in 45 years. The UN representative called on the country’s government to address the practice of illegal prisons immediately if it really is interested in establishing rule of law and protecting human rights.
In January, Medecins Sans Frontieres had to suspend its work in Libya’s third-largest city Misrata after having to treat tortured prisoners.
The group reported its doctors had to help detainees with burns from electric shocks and cigarettes, heavy bruises and renal failure, evidence of continuing torture of prisoners.
According to the UN, the number of prisoners has diminished in Libya. As of November 2011, there were an estimated 7,000 detainees in prisons around the country without any hope for a fair trial.

“Continuous crimes show that Syria has run into terror groups, which get military and financial support from those who claimed support of these terror attacks and encourage them,” one letter read.
Damascus has also said that Thursday’s bombings are further evidence of the activity of terrorist groups supported from Turkey and Libya.
