Libya, Bani Walid report [22.10.2012.]

Seems like 1/4 of Bani Walid residents are refugees now. Bani Walid shows the world again how much NATO/EU [Nobel Laureate]  & USA /Obama [Nobel Laureate] are hypocrites.
A number of Bani Walid residents are now moving to refugee camps in Sirte and Zliten, Tripoli ...
Approximately  5,000 families have already fled Bani Walid, many of whom have relocated to Tarhouna, roughly 89km north

Relief workers from the International Committee of the Red Cross estimated yesterday that as many as 5,000 families, or some 25,000 people, had fled Bani Walid into the Urban area alone, with the total figure believed to be much higher.

The ICRC have said that Urban and Temesla Wadi Mansour are the main transit points for civilians fleeing their homes, and that ICRC staff together with Libyan Red Crescent volunteers are distributing plastic sheeting, mattresses, blankets, kitchen sets and hygiene items to the many displaced in Urban. Yesterday, the ICRC set up a temporary base in Tarhuna to help facilitate its humanitarian operations.

Refugees interviewed by The Daily Beast say dozens are dead. A woman refugee says she saw 10 dead children yesterday alone. A fighter said he had seen 29 dead over the weekend. Others say hundreds of homes have been destroyed in the shelling and rocket attacks.

The shelling is indiscriminate,” says 60-year-old Musbakr al-Shibani. “We were being shelled from all around. My home was destroyed and so that is why I and my family fled.” A teacher of Arabic at a high school in Bani Walid, he says he saw a small child decapitated by shrapnel. “The fight is just gaining in ferocity. This is worse than it was during the civil war.”

= Supporting the slaughter: US blocks Russia's draft statement in UN on peaceful resolution of Bani Walid violence..

The United States has blocked a draft statement, proposed by Russia, on the resolution of violence in the Libyan town of Bani Walid, which has been under siege for weeks. The statement called for a peaceful solution to the conflict.

Russia's envoy to the UN, Vitaly Churkin said the move "can't be serious," reminding the American delegation of the deadly attack in Benghazi that claimed the lives of four US diplomats in September.

"Blocking a draft statement that called to solve the country's political problems without violence is very strange," Churkin said. "This is a case when it is difficult to explain the US delegation's actions in rational terms." read full article

The statement drafted by Russia on Bani Walid called on the Libyan authorities "to take urgent steps to resolve the conflict by peaceful means and to preserve the rights of all Libyan citizens." It also expressed concern about the significant escalation of violence in and around the city of Bani Walid in recent days.
